U.S. and China Forge Renewable Energy Partnership to Tackle Global Warming
The United States and China, the world's top two carbon emitters, have agreed to collaborate on addressing global warming by significantly increasing their investment in renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels. While the climate agreement marks a positive step, it does not include China's commitment to phase out coal or halt the construction of new coal plants, which has been a contentious issue in previous discussions between the two nations. Both countries have pledged to work toward tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030 and achieving substantial reductions in power sector emissions, representing a significant commitment by China to reduce emissions in a part of its economy.
