Secretary Pete Buttigieg has gone to Capitol Hill in hopes of budget approval to fund railroad safety, air traffic control hiring/training, and aviation safety. This budget would be an additional $3.1 billion allocated for the Highway Safety Improvement Program. Buttigieg pointed out to senators in Congress that the roads are not as safe as they seem, and he presented data that stated nearly 43,000 traffic fatalities occurred in 2021 alone. The fatalities in 2021 had been a 10.5% increase from the previous year, which seemed to shock some senators.

Palm oil supplier is cut off by PepsiCo 

PepsiCo is a multinational food and beverage company headquartered in Purchase, New York, USA. The company was formed in 1965 with the merger of Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay and has since grown to become one of the world's largest food and beverage companies, with a portfolio of brands that includes Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Gatorade, Quaker Oats, Tropicana, and many others. The main palm oil supplier AAL was completely cut by the food giants’ company because of human rights violations. 

Astra Agro Lestari (AAL) is an Indonesian palm oil company that is one of the largest producers of crude palm oil (CPO) in Indonesia. AAL is a subsidiary of Astra International, one of the largest diversified conglomerates in Southeast Asia. PepsiCo has said that this palm oil supplier illegally took land from the local Indonesia people. This company also set up shop in Indonesia’s protected forest zone. PepsiCo is now looking for a new supplier for their goods.

Heartwarming: Dog reunited with trucker owner in Ohio  

Sophie the husky and a California-based trucker named Jordan have been reunited after having to re-home her due to a new pet policy Jordan's company announced. Jordan found a place to re-home his Sophie, but unfortunately, she was soon abandoned after being passed along to several different homes. Sophie was left in Cincinnati, Ohio where she was soon picked up by animal control who quickly found a microchip embedded in her with contact information.

Luckily for Jordan and Sophie, he never removed his contact info on the chip. Jordan had already switched employers and was with a pet-friendly company. He got a call from Ohio not knowing that his best friend would soon be returned to him. Jordan drove to Ohio and picked up Sophie, and she is now back to being the copilot for all Jordan's trucking adventures.
