The state of Iowa has enacted a new law that establishes limits on the monetary liability of commercial drivers and trucking companies regarding non-economic damages following an accident. Under this legislation, the cap will encompass lawsuits involving pain, suffering, and emotional distress. In cases involving injury or death, the maximum cap will be set at $5 million.
However, it's important to note that there are specific circumstances where this cap will not apply in a court of law. Such exceptions include instances where the driver operates the vehicle while under the influence or when the driver operates with a suspended or revoked license.
Check out today’s featured article from The Trucker to read about Iowa’s plans to move forward with this law. Will more states start implementing caps on the amount of money that can be sued against commercial drivers or trucking companies?

Navigating Bumpy Terrain: Waste Industry Braces for Challenges in California
Haulers and vehicle manufacturers anticipate a surge in regulatory demands and anticipate challenges due to a constrained supply of battery-electric trucks. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has recently adopted the Advanced Clean Fleet rule, mandating waste haulers to procure 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2042. California has been a pioneering force in implementing regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting clean transportation. The state has embraced various initiatives and regulations to incentivize the adoption of clean and zero-emission vehicles, with CARB playing a significant role in their implementation and enforcement.
Presently, haulers are racing against the clock to find viable solutions to meet this ambitious goal, while grappling with the scarcity of lithium and a lackluster number of manufacturers in the market. The approved timeline in April stipulates that waste fleets currently utilizing natural gas must transition to being 10% zero-emission by 2030.

Unveiling the EV Leasing Surge: Exploring the Impact of a Tax Credit Loophole
The concept of a "tax credit loophole" regarding the rise in electric vehicle (EV) leasing implies a scenario where individuals or businesses leverage specific tax incentives or loopholes to maximize the advantages of leasing EVs. Opting for an EV lease opens up the potential for qualifying for federal and state tax credits, which can effectively reduce the overall leasing costs. It's important to note that tax credits and incentives have played a significant role in driving the adoption of electric vehicles, with governments worldwide striving to promote cleaner transportation alternatives. These incentives often encompass federal tax credits, state-level incentives, and local rebates, all of which contribute to decreasing the leasing expenses associated with electric vehicles.
Research indicates that leasing vehicles can save drivers substantial amounts of money. As a result, prominent brands like Hyundai and Ford are now actively exploring options to increase leasing offerings for their EV models, aiming to lower prices and bolster sales.
