Hurricane Ian barreled through central Florida and left destruction in its wake. Many homes and businesses were left without power and damage to the tune of $100 billion are signaling a challenging road ahead. With supply chains already snarled from an array of problems, some believe that it may be a significantly difficult job to pick up the pieces after this natural disaster.

But on Thursday, the government confirmed what at least half the experts have been saying - yes, the economy shrank over the first half of 2022 and yes, that means we are likely heading for a now unavoidable recession. Unemployment remains at a 50-year low, but the signs of an impending recession are growing clearer by the day.

Ford Motors introduces 2023 line of gas-powered pickup trucks, despite recent 2035 carbon-neutral goals

Ford Motors, while having announced goals of complete carbon neutrality by 2035, also unveiled its newest pickup truck line for the 2023 model dubbed the Super Duty series. The Super Duty series offers up to a 7.3-liter gasoline engine and seems to highly contradict the company’s recent mission statement. However, Ford says that in order to produce the vehicles of the future, it also needs to supply customers with the needs of today.

Casey’s General Store gets procurement organized with Graphite Connect’s management tool

Casey’s General Store had joined into a partnership with Graphite Connect, a supplier management tool that handles a procurement system for the company’s network. This new technology has been developed over several years and is meant to assist with day-to-day operations in terms of sourcing. The tool will evaluate supplier risk and manage the relationship between the supplier and the customer.

Robotics are being introduced to food wholesaler distribution centers

United Natural Foods (UNFI), a food wholesale company, is inserting an end-to-end automation technology system into five of its distribution centers over the next five years. Symbiotic AI, the robotics company supplying the system, says that robotic arms are able to process up to 1,700 every hour as opposed to human labor’s much smaller number. Other Symbiotic AI partners are Walmart and Target.
