Germany Allows France to Subsidize Nuclear Plants


Germany has allowed France to use state subsidies for its nuclear power plants, breaking a deadlock in EU electricity market reform discussions. This agreement enables France to financially support its predominantly state-owned nuclear plants, which supply around 70% of the country's electricity. While Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg had opposed the move due to their historical opposition to nuclear power, this compromise aims to address concerns while advancing EU electricity market reforms, which include creating better investment signals for renewable energy and securing electricity supply.
