Congress representatives propose removal of the 1917 Federal Excise Tax

🛻 The Modern, Clean, and Safe Trucks Act of 2022 has been introduced to Congress, proposing doing away with the 12% Federal Excise Tax on heavy trucks and trailers.

The bill was introduced on June 16th by Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.) and Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.), making it bi-partisan legislation. The urgency to repeal the tax comes as Congress focuses on supply chain issues and reducing emissions in the transportation industry. It was originally enacted in 1917 to assist the government in paying for World War 1 war efforts.
