Heatwave threatens safety of rail transit systems across U.S. & Europe


☀️ The railroads are not prepared for the heatwave soaring across the continents, say civil engineers and transit authorities.

Triple-digit temperatures derailed a train in Concord, California, wreaked havoc on the Portland, Oregon public transit system, and canceled subway services in London’s tube system. Alicia Trost, a representative for the Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority, is warning that the extreme heat will cause issues in the region. Steel expands and softens in heat, creating a deadly situation for America’s railroads.
