International Maritime Organization Reaches Unanimous Agreement on Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Rules

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has reached a unanimous agreement on updated rules to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping vessels. The new "2023 IMO GHG Strategy" sets a target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions from ships close to 2050 and includes milestones for increasing the use of clean and low-carbon fuels. While the agreement marks a significant step towards maritime decarbonization, further efforts will be required in the years ahead to intensify the work and meet the set goals.
