Peloton Files Federal Complaint Against Flexport Over Unreasonable Charges

Peloton has lodged a complaint against digital freight forwarder Flexport with the Federal Maritime Commission, alleging that Flexport's practices resulted in millions of dollars in unreasonable demurrage and detention charges. Peloton relied on Flexport for its global logistics needs, including moving containers from international ports to U.S. locations.

The fitness company claims that from 2020 to 2023, Flexport repeatedly failed to meet its inland transportation responsibilities, resulting in late deliveries and improper invoicing, which violated the Shipping Act. Frustrated with delays, Peloton eventually turned to a third-party logistics provider for some shipments.

Peloton asserts that Flexport wrongfully charged them for transportation services while failing to provide detailed invoices that would have allowed Peloton to understand or challenge the fees. Flexport denies the allegations, stating that they adhere to all shipping regulations and strive to minimize charges, particularly during the pandemic supply chain crisis.

Peloton is requesting that the Federal Maritime Commission order Flexport to cease the alleged misconduct and pay reparations for the losses incurred.
