China's rapid economic growth and increasing global influence have led to heightened competition with the United States, particularly in areas such as trade, technology, and investment. The U.S. and other countries have expressed concerns about China's practices with respect to intellectual property, such as theft of trade secrets and forced technology transfers - not to mention the elevated concerns regarding China’s human rights record. China's military expansion in the South China Sea and its aggressive actions towards Taiwan have raised concerns about its intentions and increased tensions with the U.S. and its allies in the region. Additionally, the U.S. and China have fundamentally different political systems and ideologies, and tensions have been heightened by a growing perception in the U.S. that China is a strategic competitor that poses a threat to American interests and values.
