A new study reveals that many major car manufacturers admit to selling personal information collected from their vehicles, with vague information about the buyers. Additionally, half of these manufacturers are willing to share this data with the government or law enforcement without requiring a court order. Researchers emphasize that drivers have little control over the personal data their vehicles collect, and security standards are unclear, posing concerns regarding the susceptibility of automobiles to hacking. Among various product categories studied, cars scored the lowest for privacy, with none of the 25 car brands meeting Mozilla's minimum privacy standards.
