EPA Moves to Remove Lead Pipes Nationwide to Safeguard Public Health


The Biden administration has proposed a plan, led by the EPA, to replace all lead water service pipes in the United States within a decade to protect Americans from lead exposure, which can have severe health consequences. While over 9.2 million lead pipes exist nationwide, the initiative would particularly benefit states like Florida, Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, where a significant portion of the lead service lines are located. These efforts aim to address historical issues with lead in pipes that have had adverse effects on both children and adults, especially in low-income communities.
