Federal Highway Administration’s proposed rule on EV charging stations draws varying reactions


The Federal Highway Administration wants to set minimum requirements for projects to meet in order to receive funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program. The trucking industry, however, has some concerns.

Plans for expanding electrical chargers for medium- and heavy-duty trucks are not specifically laid out, leaving many wondering how an industry is meant to thrive or even survive without the effort put forth to sustain power to this equipment. Migrating from diesel to zero-emission technologies is a tall order for truckers to follow, and many other factors will play a part in making it happen besides carriers opting in to just “buy an electric truck.”
