GM Announces Layoffs at Michigan Plants Amid Restructuring and EV Transition


General Motors (GM) is laying off 1,314 workers at two Michigan plants, including one that produced the discontinued Chevy Bolt EV. The layoffs are part of GM's restructuring efforts after finalizing a new contract with the United Auto Workers (UAW), which included raising wages for GM Subsystem LLC workers. GM plans to reemerge with next-gen EVs on its Ultium platform, including the Chevy Bolt EUV in 2025, while transitioning away from the BEV2 platform.
