Panama Canal Maintains Restrictions as Drought Impacts Lake Levels


The Panama Canal will continue to impose draft restrictions on shippers due to a drought that has caused water levels in its main lake to reach a four-year low. The canal authority aims to keep the draft limit at no lower than 44 feet (13.4 meters) to accommodate most vessels, but some ships may need to lighten their loads. The canal is also exploring ways to secure additional water sources to address future water supply challenges and maintain its relevance as a critical transportation route.
