Port of Oakland operations reopen as AB5 protestors move to “free speech zones”


The Port of Oakland reopened its marine terminal gates after several days of closure due to independent truck driver protests. The protestors have moved to “Free Speech Zones” away from the gates to continue picketing, allowing the port to maintain operations.

The protests are in regards to California’s controversial AB5 law that will likely prohibit or significantly diminish the operation of owner-operators in the state in regards to trucking. The Supreme Court denied a review of the law several weeks ago, sparking the outrage.
