Somalian piracy no longer a “high risk threat” to shippers


When someone says “piracy” they may then think, “of the Caribbean” - unless they’re in the shipping industry. The coast of Somalia has long been wrought with piracy attacks that have disrupted international trade. But after more than a decade of serious preventative efforts by international logistics organizations, this sector of the Indian Ocean will no longer be considered a “high-risk” shipping corridor in 2023.

The United Nations Security Council has also thrown its hat in the ring, taking measures to counter-piracy efforts in the area and bring an end to the negative light oceanic crime has given West Africa.
