$1.5 billion BNSF intermodal hub being built in Barstow, CA


California’s High Desert is the home of a new BNSF project - a $1.5 billion intermodal complex meant to relieve some of the congestion at the west coast ports. The Barstow International Gateway will include an intermodal facility, warehouses for translating, and a rail yard. The journey to the future rail yard will be about 130 miles and should improve efficiency as had been reflected in similar hubs in Texas.

Both the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach have voiced their support for the project. Both westbound and eastbound freight will be moved through the facility.
