Trucking industry experts gathered at SMC3 Connections 2023 conference predict that the freight recession will continue, with a potential relief expected in early 2024. Representatives from large carriers highlighted the ongoing impact of the recession on the supply chain, particularly in the truckload (TL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) markets. Economist Keith Prather suggested that while a U.S. recession is likely, it may be shallow and short, with a slow recovery expected in 2024 and 2025. The conference also discussed the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the trucking industry, especially in areas like last-mile logistics and labor optimization.
