As a result, many freight companies are reverting to diesel locomotives over electric models in order to reduce substantial operating costs. Trucks are now the cheaper option for transporting goods in the European Union, compared to an electric-powered rail system. With the EU’s goal to increase its rail logistics industry by 100% by 2030, this trend seems to sour that plan.
