Musk’s X Sues Over Ad Boycott Claims

Elon Musk’s X is suing a major advertiser group, alleging antitrust violations for a supposed “boycott” of the platform. The lawsuit targets the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), claiming they orchestrated a collective withdrawal of billions in ad revenue from X over brand safety concerns since Musk’s acquisition in late 2022.

GARM, a World Federation of Advertisers initiative, includes over 100 companies. Defendants in the suit include CVS, Unilever, Mars, and Ørsted. Musk’s X claims GARM’s actions threaten the platform’s future by significantly reducing ad revenue.

GARM encourages members to withhold ads from non-compliant platforms, but denies interfering with members’ ad decisions. X seeks to stop GARM’s recommendations and is asking for monetary damages.

This lawsuit is part of X’s ongoing efforts to revive its struggling ad business, which has seen brands pull back over concerns about ads appearing next to harmful content.
