Missouri Couple Sues Over Listeria Outbreak Linked to Boar's Head Products

A Missouri couple is suing after a woman became seriously ill with listeria. OFT Food Safety & Injury Lawyers filed the lawsuit in St. Louis Circuit Court, naming Boar's Head Provisions and Schnucks Markets as defendants.

The CDC and FSIS are investigating Boar's Head after routine tests found Listeria monocytogenes in one of its products, linked to a multi-state outbreak that has hospitalized 33 people. The woman bought a liverwurst from Schnucks in June and was hospitalized in July. She survived but had a long recovery in a rehab facility.

Boar's Head has recalled nine products, including liverwurst and other deli meats made on the same line. The recall, classified as Class I risk, covers about 207,528 pounds of meat deemed "unfit for human consumption."

Attorney Ryan Osterholm stated that listeria can persist in facilities not cleaned deeply and frequently, posing serious health risks. Consumers are advised to discard affected products and thoroughly clean refrigerators to prevent cross-contamination. For questions, contact Boar's Head at 1-800-352-6277.
