Northeast Hit by Powerful Storm Causing Heavy Rains, High Winds, and Widespread Disruptions


A powerful storm system brought heavy rains, strong winds, and power outages to the Northeast, causing traffic disruptions, flight delays and cancellations, and flooding in several areas. Wind gusts reached up to 40 mph, and 2 to 4 inches of rain fell in parts of New Jersey and New York City. More than 400,000 utility customers from Virginia to New Hampshire were without power, and the storm, which had previously impacted the Southeast, was expected to bring lake-effect snow to the Great Lakes and Appalachians.
