Ships traveling through “Ukraine Grain Corridor” struggle to get insured


Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the United Nations are gathering together this week to sign a deal meant to guarantee the safe passage of grain from Ukraine across the Black Sea. Since Russia’s February invasion of the country, Ukraine’s Black Sea ports have remained closed. Insurance companies are not hesitant to insure any ships in the area, regardless of the potent agreement being brokered.

Insurance sources have recommended approved escorts for these ships or new technology that act as “mine sweepers”. Currently, there are over 80 ships stuck in Ukraine with cargo - mostly grain.
