The car's location was traced to a war-torn region in southern Ukraine using the Tesla app's geolocation feature. The vehicle had been sold through an online auction affiliated with a local scrapyard.
The incident raised concerns about the security risks posed by restored totaled cars, as personal data and internet service credentials can remain in the vehicle's electronics.
