Temporary Closure of Blue Ridge Parkway Section Amid Safety Concerns Over Visitors Interacting with Young Bear

Due to numerous reports of visitors feeding and trying to interact with a young bear near the Lane Pinnacle Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a section of the scenic route from milepost 367.6 to milepost 375.6 has been temporarily closed for safety reasons. The closure began on October 30th and will continue until further notice. Park officials aim to protect both visitors and the bear by allowing it to lose interest in the area and avoid potentially dangerous interactions, especially during the period when bears actively forage for food to prepare for hibernation. Visitors are reminded to follow bear safety guidelines, keep food out of sight, and report bear encounters to park authorities.
